多くの日本人にとっても、未知の世界であろう、日本舞踊。
その独特の魅力に虜になる外国人も多い、日本舞踊について解説しま〜す！
What is Nihon buyo/traditional Japanese dance?
It is my pleasure as traditional Japanese dancer to introduce "Nihon buyo" to you.
Welcome to traditional Japanese world!
総称としての日本舞踊／Nihon buyo as a general term
まずはじめに、総称としての日本舞踊という言葉があります。
この場合の日本舞踊という言葉は、単純に「日本の踊り」という意味です。
この場合、宮廷で踊られるような雅楽から、地方で住民みんなで踊る盆踊りまで、幅広く、日本の踊りとされるものが含まれます。
他には、能、狂言、民俗芸能、舞楽、猿楽、神楽、田楽、白拍子などなど。
ちなみに、着物という言葉も、もともとは「着る物」という意味だったって知ってますか？
それが今や、英語でも「KIMONO」という固有名詞として扱われるくらい、日本の伝統的な民族衣装としての意味が定着しました。
実際に、Nihon buyoという言葉も、今は日本舞踊の国際化に伴い、使われています。
At first there is a word Nihon buyo, tradtional Japanese dance, as a general term. In this case it means just Japanese dance. It includes all dances of Japan, for example Gagaku which is performed in a palatial, Bon Odori that everyone of each local places dance at their local festival. Nou, Kyogen, ethnal arts, Bugaku, Sarugaku,Kagura, Dengaku, Shirabyoshi and so on…
By the way, do you know that Kimono means originally something to wear? But nowadays the word “Kimono” is known as Kimono which is a traditional Japanese garment in English as you know. Actually the word Nihon buyo is becoming popular as a standard word.

古典芸能としての日本舞踊／Nihon buyo as a classical performing art
次に、実際に日本舞踊と聞いて、多くの人がイメージするであろう、古典芸能としての日本舞踊について解説していきます。
現在、一般に日本舞踊と言われるものとして、歌舞伎から派生した歌舞伎舞踊、京都、大阪で発展した、お座敷などで踊る地唄舞もしくは上方舞、演歌や流行歌などに合わせて踊ったり、新たな創作を加え発展している創作舞踊（新舞踊）があります。
定義としては、
歴史的にその発祥から現代までの少なくとも400年の歳月の中で、それを更に300年を遡る時代に存在した＜能＞を始めとする先行芸能の技法を継承し、これに新しい時代に工夫された技法を加えて洗練を重ねて大成されたのが日本舞踊である。
これを要約して言えば「日本舞踊」とは、その大成以前から伝承された古典技法を基礎とし、舞台で表現される芸術舞踊
と、なります。
つまり、能をはじめとした伝統的な舞踊の基礎を持ち、歌舞伎などの比較的新しい舞踊の要素を取り入れ、進化してきた集大成が、今の日本舞踊ということになります。
また、日本舞踊には200以上の流派が存在し、それぞれの流派によって特徴も違ってきます。
そして、もう一つ大事な要素としては、舞台芸術である点です。
わかりやすく言うと、盆踊りはわざわざ何か舞台のために踊らないですよね？
でも日本舞踊は、歌舞伎でわかるように、舞台の上で上演することを目的にしています。
What is Nihon buyo as a classical performing art?
There are 3 kinds of Nihon buyo - Kabuki Buyo which has developed from Kabuki, Jiutamai/Kamikatamai which has developed in Kyoto and Osaka and is performed in Ozashiki which is a small room in a restaurant, and Sousaku Buyo which has been developing with other new styles or using Enka which is pop songs that belong to parents generation.
As definition of association of Japanese traditional dance in Japan,
“Nihonbuyo was created 400 years ago, even though since 300 years before that there was Nou which is one of oldest ancient dances and Nihonbuyo took a technique from Nou, added new creations itself and refined all the time. It is summarized that Nihonbuyo is based on classical techniques from ancient dances and an artwork which is present on a stage.”

There are more than 200 schools of Nihon buyo in Japan and each of them has different features.
One more important thing is that Nihon buyo is performing art. You can not say Bon Odor is performing art because it is not shown on a stage. But Nihon buyo needs to perform on a stage as like Kabuki.
歌舞伎座／Kabuki theater
日本舞踊の構成要素／components
日本舞踊を構成するものとして、舞・踊り・振り、という３つの要素があります。
舞：すり足や静的なゆっくりした動きで踊る。能、雅楽など。
踊り：軽快な音楽に合わせ、躍動的な踊り。
振り：演劇的な要素が強く、唄や音楽に合わせ、日常的な動作を表現。歌舞伎の所作事ともいう。
これらの要素がそれぞれの日本舞踊ごとに端的にあるものと、幾つかの要素を組み合わせたものとあります。
Nihon buyo has 3 components, Mai, Odori and Furi.
Mai: to be dances slow and still like Nou and Gagaku.
Odori: to be danced boomingly with up-temped music.
Furi: to be playing a roll more than dancing and follow a music or lyric. It is also called Syosagoto as Kabuki.
Some Nihon buyo combine some of them, or just follow one component.
日本舞踊を習う／no basic practice
日本舞踊と他の習い事とで、決定的に違うことがあります。
それは基礎練習がないということです。
例えば、ピアノではバイエルなどの教則本で、油絵ならデッサン、スポーツにしても基本的な体力作りや筋トレ、と言った、具体的な曲や種目の練習以前に、まず基本的な練習というのがあると思うのですが、日本舞踊は、最初から、１曲の曲を習います。
その曲の中に、基本的な足の動き、手の使い方などといった、踊りの基礎が入っているので、一つ一つを単独で習うことはせず、１つの曲として、一連の踊りの中で、基礎を学んでいきます。
すごく独特で、個人的に面白い点だなと思いますが、みなさんどうでしょう。
You can realize that there is a big difference between Nihon buyo and other dances or sports, when you learn it. It is no practice of basic thing, as like beetle for playing piano, drawing practice or muscle training for sports. You start to learn with a song from the beginning without any guidance of using your body. While practicing, you will learn it. It is a particular thing of Nihon buyo, isn’t it?

日本伝統文化に誇りを／traditional Japanese culture for European people
さて、今日は、日本舞踊について、かなりざっくりと説明をしてみましたが、なんとなくわかっていただけたでしょうか。
私が初めて、デンマークのホイスコーレという学校で、全校生徒の前で日本舞踊を披露した時、びっくりするくらい、シーンとした静けさの中で踊りました。
みんな初めて見る、全く真逆の文化に衝撃を受けていたのです。
終わった後、普段かなりチャラチャラした感じの女の子が、
「すっごく良かった。」
と、真剣な顔で、わざわざ言いに来てくれたのを、今も覚えています。
日本舞踊だけでなく、日本の伝統文化は、世界中の人を虜にする、貴重な財産だと、今より一層思います。
今後も、ヨーロッパの人にだけでなく、日本人であるみなさんにも、この素晴らしさを伝えていきたいですし、ぜひみなさんにも、日本人として生まれた、その恵まれた環境をぜひ楽しんでほしいなと、ドイツから願っています。
5月~ 日本舞踊オンラインクラスも始めます。
The first time when I performed my dance in Europa country, it was an art school in Denmark, I was surprised because everyone was so quiet and just concentrated on my dance. For them it was also the first time to see something completely different from their culture and they were kind of shocked. Afterwards one of party girls in the school came to me and told with an exciting face,
“It was impressing and beautiful!”
I do think that traditional Japanese culture is still fascinated and precious wealth. Or even more nowadays. I would like to keep on doing my best to spread it as much as I can in Europa country and tell that to Japanese people as well.
